What to Wear to a Dress Rehearsal Opera

Anything you like. Women tend to dress up, some even wear flimsy evening gowns. Most however wear suits and nice blouses. Still, I've seen plenty of blue jeans.

You can wear anything you like. However, it's best to wear nothing less than dressy casual. I wore a tie as did most of those who were there. However, a number of people were more casually dressed.

I am traveling to New York by air for two events on Valentine's weekend, I will dress up for both events. Rarely do I get the opportunity in my hometown. Attending dinner and two Lincoln Center events on one weekend calls for my finest attire. I look forward to the ocaission.

No need to dress up too much if you don't want to. I usually dress business casual or perhaps wear a sports jacket. However, if you like dressing more formal, you won't be alone.

I was there in October and I wore a dress. My mom wore black jeans and a dressy jacket. We saw people in casual clothes and people in ball gowns and tuxedos. It really depends on you.

Your clothes depend on the reason you are going. If you are going to a ballet or an opening you better dress up at least a bit, but if it's something light and funny go with your casual clothes!

Smart casual is always the safe choice to wear, but it also depends where you sit and what the occasion is. If it's opening night and you are in the Golden Horseshoe's Parterre boxes, evening gowns and tuxedos and suits are not uncommon. The patrons seated in the Orchestra, Grand Tier and Dress Circle boxes usually wear cocktail dresses, smart pantsuits and jackets and ties. Matinees are becoming more leisure casual, but evening performances are more smart casual since there's a greater likelihood for pre-opera dining.

Anything you like. But your own dressing up will make the event more memorable for you. Going to the Met is an event in any case. The surrounding is formal and beautiful. If you are dressed too casual, you might make it less special for yourself.

These days it's just about anything. But it is nice to still see people attending as was the norm, formal dress or evening attire.
